Peter was born in 1957 and took his first bassoon lessons at the age of twelve years, with Frans Odijk.
At the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam Peter studied with Brian Pollard and with John Mostard. He graduated in 1980.
In 1977 he enrolled at the Utrechts Symfonie Orkest and the next year he was appointed as first bassoonist with the Radio Symfonie Orkest.
In 1991 Peter joined the "Residentie Orkest" as first bassoon.
Peter has performed at many chamber music festivals (among others at Tanglewood). He plays not only classical music but also e.g. M. Daugherty’s ‘Dead Elvis’.
Together with pianist Mariken Zandvliet Peter gave various concerts and radio performances. Peter has a lot of CD-recordings on his name as well.
As a member of the “Residentie Orkest” (the Hague) Peter is assistant to his chief-conductor Maestro Neeme Järvi. Peter also conducts various formations of the “Residentie Orkest” on regular basis.
Peter has led several orchastas, such as “Het Nederlands Promenade Orkest” (January 2002 and 2003), the “Residentie ‘Scratch’ Orkest”, the “Gelders Orkest”, and accompanies various projects at the conservatoria of Utrecht, Arnhem, Zwolle, Enschede and Münster (Germany).
Peter teaches as well at the Conservatory of Zwolle (bassoon and orchestral conducting).
